I started skinning back in september. I did 4 wb skins so far. But now I feel like I didn't do any of them at all. I feel like I've been stealing other people ideas(buttons, colors, design). I didn't come up with anything new. I can't do anything beside making circles and squares. All of my skins have some kind of glass style that I borrowed from someone else. A quote from Apocalypes web "a good artist always creates... never duplicates". I think it's time for me to remove my skins and go back to be a regular user.

Leo.... don't do that. I looked at your skins. They have good ratings. The thing is, this phase is getting you used to skinning, real familar. The creativity will come...if you give it a chance. Look at all your downloads, and comments. All the people who appreciate your work.

It's like running a marathon. You hit a wall, and you can either just give up or stare it down and become really great.

Maybe, if you need, take a break. Go for hikes, swim, surf, get away from the computer and have some fun. But don't destroy your work.

And if I am too late, or not convincing enough... it is easy to restore your stuff. Just write the admins.

Thanks Goodmorphing, I'm not giving up. But I won't upload another skin until I can make a skin that I can be proud of. And I'm not destroying my work, I believe out of the 50k download some still have my work on their computer.

Leonhart, look at skinning as you would look at fashion. In the 70's bellbottoms and butterfly collars was all that every designer made, that doesnt mean they were stealing ideas from eachother.
Skining is the same thing. Glass, metal and plastic style buttons and bars are what people like. There is nothing wrong with borrowing ideas as long as you dont copy the original.
I learn to skin by looking at the work of great artists such as Treetog, Adni, Mormegil, DuoPixel... just to name a few. And I have borrow ideas from the style they use. I just try to experiment further on what I see.
Im sure everyone here has design something that came as an idea from watching someone else's work.
Dont give up, just keep working on your skins and you'll see that you will create a style of your own.

Get wild with pencil and paper and throw something together. Pick out what you like which will integrate well and just kind of let the mojo flow

It like, you've a bunch of apple style lime green orb buttons with triangles on them depicting minimize, expand, X to close and so on. But how many lime green glass triangles with orbs on the with symbols on those? Or say maybe the location of the org and size, or the direction of the triangle with an org on it just for ascetics?
same with rectangles and squares and stuff
paper and pencil dude
I've plenty of ideas just this really big wall between me and finishing anything

Apoc, IR and goodmorphing got the right of it I am thinking

I found 5 WB skins....anything else?....

Keep in mind, that there's only so much you can do with a WB skin, and still have it functional. Please yourself, and you've won the battle.

Yes....skin for your OWN enjoyment....that is what it is all about.

Some will eventually go the commercial road and have commissions....eg. Pixtudio or Skins Factory, etc., but most primarily do it for F.U.N.....
